Marketplace submission guidelines

Before you submit an asset to the marketplace, please make sure it meets our cleanup and ownership standards. Every submission is reviewed by an admin before it goes live, and you earn 80% of every sale.

Clean up your asset

Remove the background

AI generations always come back on a solid background. Run the Background Removal tool, or use the Magic Wand to select the background color and delete it. Buyers expect transparent sprites they can drop straight into a game.

Clear stray pixels

Zoom in and scrub off any orphan pixels, anti-alias halos, or color bleed left over from background removal. A clean silhouette is the single biggest quality signal for a marketplace asset.

Trim and center

Crop the artboard to the subject and center it. Don’t leave large empty borders or off-center compositions. For sprite sheets, every frame should sit on a consistent grid so animation imports cleanly.

Keep the palette tight

Pixel art lives or dies by its palette. Aim for a cohesive set of colors across the whole asset and remove near-duplicates left over from generation. If you’re submitting a set, every piece should share the same palette.

For dimensions and AI-generation best practices, see the AI tips guide.

Format for buyers

No raw AI sheets

A 1024×1024 sheet with multiple sprites packed into a grid is the raw AI output — not a finished asset. Buyers can’t preview individual frames from a raw sheet, and the submission dialog will block it. Raw sheets belong in your own library; only finished, decomposed artboards should reach the marketplace.

Normalize to the pixel grid

AI outputs often have soft edges or pixels that don’t line up with your chosen brush size. Run normalization so every pixel snaps cleanly to the grid — this is what makes pixel art look crisp at any zoom and lets buyers drop it straight into their game without artifacts.

Split sheets into individual artboards

If the AI returned a multi-frame sheet (animation strip, directional sprites, or a set), decompose it so each frame is its own artboard before submitting. This ensures the asset is usable quickly and fits the same consistent format every other marketplace asset uses — buyers get a per-frame preview and importable individual sprites.

Own the rights

Only submit work you own

You must have created the asset yourself, or hold a license that lets you redistribute and resell it. Generating with MagicPixel’s AI from your own prompts and references counts as your work.

No copyrighted characters or logos

Don’t submit fan art of trademarked characters (Mario, Pikachu, Sonic, etc.), brand logos, or assets clearly derived from another studio’s game. These get rejected on review and repeat offenders lose submission privileges.

If something gets reported

Every submission is reviewed by an admin before it goes live. If a published asset is later flagged as infringing, we’ll unpublish it and refund any pending payouts on it. Persistent violations result in losing the ability to sell on the marketplace.
